The Weekend that will be...

9:07 am

Edinburgh Castle from Carlton Hill
I need to getaway. It’s been 6 months since I was last on the road. This feels like a lifetime. My last road trip saw me driving from Oxfordshire to Edinburgh. I fell in love with the Edinburgh winter and even made friends. This road trip was with my family.

So i have decided to go have some fun in the sun and collect a few stamps on my passport this weekend J Catch up on the last few sunny days that KZN has to offer before the winter. Not that their winters are as brutal as the Joburg winters.

I always wished that when I grow up I can enjoy my own company the most, and this weekend I will learn how much I enjoy conversations with myself while singing (read: “screaming”) along to Fearless by Taylor Swift and bopping my head to Mafikizolo’s Happiness.

About a week ago I discovered that there is a place in Northern KZN called Kosi bay. This beautiful little paradise is nestled in the Eastern most part of South Africa right between Mozambique and Swaziland. Kosi bay is known for its fish traps which the local Thonga people have been using as the traditional and sustainable method of catching fish for generations and turtle tours during the summer months (November – February) are a must. I plan to soak up the sun at Kosi Bay on Friday 30th May and Saturday 31st May. I will be staying at the Thobeka Backpackers, discovering the charm and magic of staying in rustic and authentic South African backpacking accommodation establishment. Then on Sunday, The passport stamp collection begins J My absolute favourite part.

Macaneta Island. Local villagers
fishing in the background.
I will drive into Mozambique through the Kosi Bay Boarder post which is 13.8km away from Thobeka Backpackers. I will make a stop at the Ponta do Auro market and then proceed to drive towards the Namaacha/Lomaacha (Swaziland/Mozambique) border post were I will collect more passport stamps into Swaziland. I will be heading to meet up with friends at the MTN Bush Fire Fest. I just plan to be there for the 14:30 for Oliver Mtukudzi's performance on the main stage. I have ALWAYS wanted to watch this man perform. I cannot begin to describe the excitement I am feeling about this.

The MTN Bush Fire Fest will conclude at 18:00 but I plan to dash just after 16:00 so that I can at least try be out of Swaziland through the Oshoek/Ngwenya (South Africa/Swaziland) boarder post by 20:00 and heading back into JHB to get a bit of rest before i go back into rock star mode on my Monday morning.

Of course the most important gadgets for this road trip will be my Camera, Cell phone and my TomTom GPS. Oh yes and I can’t afford to forget my peaceful sleep, Kosi bay and Mozambique are Malaria areas.

Tell you all about the weekend adventures when I get back next week J till then, stay glued to Twitter and Instagram for the adventures in pictures.
